  • Overview

    The Director of Institutional Relations and Enrollment is charged with providing leadership in expanding partnerships and approved programs with U.S. institutions, expanding student enrollment, and enhancing enrollment services for students throughout their engagement with The College of Global Studies. The Director of Institutional Relations achieves this by working in tandem with the Director of Marketing Communications and the Director of New Business Development and Innovation to shape the strategic direction of outreach and enrollment services to home schools and students; develop sales and marketing plans; and meet sales and enrollment targets. The Director of IR and Enrollment will also develop new recruitment strategies and enrollment services to substantially increase access to students from diverse backgrounds and majors and from schools across the entire higher education spectrum.

    Responsibilities

    Planning and Administration (25%)

    • In consultation with the VP and in collaboration with the AVP, develop strategic plans and set strategic goals for recruitment, admissions and institutional relations.
    • In collaboration with the Director of New Business Development and Innovation, the Director of Marketing Communications and the AVP, develop strategic plans and set strategic goals for new business development.
    • Meet annual growth goals for new leads, number of institutions affiliated with The College, and student enrollment and identify new initiatives that may inform or impact meeting these goals.
    • In collaboration with AVP, the Director of Marketing Communications and the Director of New Business Development and Innovation, work to reposition The College and its programs within the field and increase The College's impact and visibility within the field.
    • Oversee the activities of all direct reports ensuring the highest level of collaboration and communication across teams and functional areas within The College.
    • Coordinate with the AVP and other senior leaders on relevant processes within the College such as admissions, marketing, outreach and communications. Ensure that these areas run smoothly across student services, student outreach and institutional relations and that processes are effective for new and existing partners.
    • Provide market intelligence to Academic Affairs, Finance, Student Services, Marketing and overseas offices to inform and guide discussions regarding program development, enhancement, pricing and promotion.
    • Provide a framework for Overseas Directors and partners to understand the market and work strategically with The College. Monitor trends and investigate best practices in the field of international education; recommend new initiatives appropriate to the mission of The College.
    • Undertake regular statistical and budgetary analysis in order to track the various institutional patterns of student inquiry, application, and admission and to assess cost-effectiveness.
    • Oversee operating budget and expenses related to institutional relations, enrollment and outreach activities.

     

    Staff Management and Training (25%)

    • Manage and advise admissions, recruitment and institutional relations teams, driving strategic priorities for The College.
    • Work with direct reports to establish annually clear goals and direction for their individual responsibilities.
    • Hire, train and conduct annual performance reviews for each direct report and recommend and/or provide professional development and training opportunities.
    • Provide regular training for College staff on trends in, and place of education abroad within the US higher education market. Work with teams to identify and implement process efficiencies, policies, and guidelines to enable success in meeting goals.

     

    Divisional Leadership and Operations (30%)

     

    Recruitment and Institutional Relations Operations

    • Oversee all aspects of the day-to-day operations of the Institutional Relations and Outreach team
    • Collaborate with AVP, Director of Marketing Communications and Director of New Business Development and Innovation to identify, recommend, and execute recruitment and outreach action plans and activities.
    • Manage key institutional relationships with an emphasis on driving sales and adoption of programs across the U.S.
    • Serve as a back-up and support to Institutional Relations staff by attending meetings at home schools and giving presentations, as needed.
    • In collaboration with the Institutional Relations team, develop and cultivate advisors, administrators, and faculty relationships with institutions new to The College; deepen existing relationships.
    • Work in conjunction with multiple departments within The College, both domestically and internationally, to support current and future partnerships.
    • Assist partners by guiding their program development efforts, student recruitment efforts, handling special requests, and providing creative solutions to complex programming.
    • Work with individual IR team members to identify new partner affiliation and business development opportunities in an effort to meet annual goals.
    • Assist individual IR team members and Program Representatives in the planning of their seasonal business travel.
    • Review monthly expense reports for each direct report and track expenses to budget

     

    Admissions and Student Services Operations

    • Oversee all aspects of the day-to-day operations of the admissions and student services team.
    • Identify trends and opportunities in the advising procedures and processes. Recommend, establish and implement, in coordination with AVP and Assistant Directors, improvements and enhancements to procedures and processes.
    • Improve student outreach quality results by studying, evaluating, and re-designing processes; establishing and communicating metrics; monitoring and analyzing results; and implementing changes.
    • Collaborate with Assistant Directors of Student Services to coordinate and allocate team resources to assist the Student Services team with application and student support during peak periods and allocate Student Services to recruiting during peak times for student outreach efforts.
    • Regularly inform other College staff about developments at partner institutions with whom we work.
    • Use the Customer Relationship Management system to oversee the management of inquiries and applicants by staff and produce reports incorporating key institutional statistical information regarding student activity.

     

    New Business Development/Sales (15%)

    • In collaboration with the Director of New Business and Innovation strategically research, identify and manage new business opportunities to include:
      • Utilizing institutional characteristics and enrollment data to strategically identify new potential sources of enrollment for all programs, including custom programs.
      • Developing institutional growth plans that align College programs and services with partner institutions mission and goals.
    • Define, forecast and ensure achievement of annual goals related to new business under his/her purview
    • Liaise with the Director of New Business Development and Innovation to create new and innovative ways of connecting with faculty on U.S. campuses.
    • Coordinate event and conference planning, as appropriate.
    • Manage The College conference attendance and advertising presence at regional conferences for all staff under his/her purview.

     

    Representation and Professional Development (5%)

    • As funding permits, represent Arcadia at international education conferences.
    • As time permits, participate on University committees and in activities related to the field of international education.

    Qualifications

    Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

    • Excellent administrative and organization skills
    • Strong customer service skills with the ability to resolve issues fairly and quickly
    • Superior written and verbal communication skills adaptable to all types of audiences including students, parents, faculty,  employees, and industry partners
    • Ability to function well in a complex institutional framework, including having a high tolerance for ambiguity and having the flexibility to respond quickly and appropriately to changing circumstances
    • Demonstrated understanding of the education abroad market and ability to identify opportunities for growth and change
    • Ability to to represent The College with integrity and in the spirit of its mission
    • Ability to qualitatively and quantitatively measure success of recruitment and enrollment efforts
    • Ability and desire to travel domestically and internationally (up to 10% during the semester)
    • Strong knowledge of U.S. academic institutions and their culture required

     

     

    Minimum Qualifications:

    • Bachelor's degree required; Master's preferred
    • 6-8 years of sales/recruitment experience in a higher education setting, with a proven ability to meet sales targets
    • 5 years of experience with education abroad activities/programs with demonstrated understanding of best practices and trends in the field 
    • 2-3 years of direct management experience required
    • Experience with CRM systems required, Salesforce preferred
