  • Overview

    In collaboration with key Arcadia University stakeholders, the Travel Health and Safety Manager will contribute to the development, management, and promotion of a comprehensive travel preparedness strategy for Glenside programs (faculty-led international, domestic). The Manager will promote best practices from the fields of education abroad and risk management and must have the knowledge and interpersonal skills to work effectively with faculty, students, and staff at all levels. The Travel Health and Safety Manager will be based in Academic Affairs, reporting to the Associate Provost.


    The Manager will train administrative staff and faculty in appropriate health and safety measures, procedures and precautions, and will revise and implement current student-facing health and safety education for Arcadia's signature Preview and Global Field Study Programs and international experiences, along with program-based domestic travel. The Manager will support the work of Travel Advisory and Response Team (TART). S/he/they will monitor international security risks in order to update relevant program faculty, staff and participants as appropriate and will assist in implementing decisions made by TART and senior university staff. S/he/they will foster a reliable network of support and shared resources among institutional peers.

    Essential Functions:

    • Lead Arcadia University's Travel Health and Safety Management processes and implementation at all levels, including oversight of support networks during Faculty/Staff/Student travel (international).
    • Education of Faculty/Staff/Students pre-experience (international & domestic).
    • Function as representative of Arcadia's Risk Management process during inquiry and investigation of health and safety investigations.
    • Work with University constituencies to enhance processes for Travel Health and Safety education of students and faculty participating in off-campus Arcadia programming.
    • Emergency response support.


    Policy Development and Implementation:

    • Develop/revise Travel Health and Safety procedures and processes for the University both as a whole and for individual units within the University.
    • Enhance and coordinate the University's Health and Safety system and protocols.
    • Maintain policies and procedures to identify and drive improvement in Travel Health and Safety processes to ensure compliance with local, state and federal regulations and higher educational best practices.
    • Maintain accurate documentation of policies, processes and investigations.
    • Assess the success of policies and processes periodically.
    • Collaboration with campus General Council on policy creation and revision.


    Marginal Functions:

    • Serve as on-call for emergency needs.
    • Support any travel and safety initiatives as needed.

    Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

    • Demonstrable leadership skills;
    • Strong organizational, interpersonal, and presentation skills required, both oral and written;
    • Knowledge of travel insurance in an educational environment Ability to analyze and synthesize information quickly.
    • Proficient with information technology tools including data management and Microsoft Office suite
    • Demonstrated understanding of the higher education field and the current health and safety issues impacting U.S. Higher Education domestically and internationally.
    • Experience managing crises and/or difficult student incidents or emergencies domestically or internationally
    • Demonstrated ability to remain calm, multi-task, and prioritize in the face of challenging and unusual situations involving students Demonstrated ability to exercise excellent judgment and engage in collaborative, critical decision making while under pressure
    • Demonstrated knowledge of FERPA, HIPPA and the Clery Act



    Minimum Qualifications:

    • Bachelor's degree required; Master's degree preferred.
    • Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in higher education

    • Valid driver's license
    • Availability for evening, weekend events and occasional overnight travel
    • Ability to travel domestically and internationally on occasion
