Overview

Under the leadership of the Applications Director the Business Analyst (BA) supports the University's administrative functional units. The BA provides functional as well as technical support to the end-user community. The BA possesses a solid, demonstrable knowledge of standard university business processes, applications, business intelligence, ETL (Extract, Transform and Load) and documentation.

Responsibilities

Essential Functions

  • Ability to establish excellent working relationships with the end-user community
  • Work with users and departments to re-engineer and improve business processes
  • Document key information about applications and end-user business processes
  • Using appropriate toolsets create and maintain integrations for sharing data between systems
  • Using appropriate toolsets automates manual tasks for both IT and the end user community
  • Using BI tools and in cooperation with the Institutional Research Office develop dashboards and reports for Administration, IT and the end-user community
  • Manage internal and external projects to develop applications as required to implement interfaces
  • Establish a good working relationship with applicable vendors
  • Manage work and tasks using project management software, source code control and change management procedures
  • Implement standards, procedures, and controls to ensure the security, reliability, and availability of enterprise applications Marginal Functions
  • Help to troubleshoot University networks and servers

Qualifications

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Excellent communication and training skills including ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical users
  • Excellent time-management
  • Proficient in Business Intelligence and BI Toolsets
  • Proficient in scripting and ETL toolsets such as Microsoft SSIS
  • Proficient in documenting business processes and use cases
  • Proficient in administering, modifying, documenting and upgrading applications
  • Recognizing the need for, and implementing, re-engineered business processes
  • Ability to troubleshoot and fix problems with limited assistance
  • Ability to work independently with limited direction from supervisor
  • Ability to work well in a team environment
  • Ability to collaborate across different organizations, locally and globally

 

The Ideal Candidate would have working knowledge of many of the following:

  • SQLServer Reporting Services (SSRS)
  • SQLServer Integration Services (SSIS)
  • SQL Queries and Stored Procedures
  • Powershell and Linux shell scripting
  • Experience with using source code control systems
  • Experience with Web Content Management Systems, XML and Web Services technologies

 

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Earned bachelor's degree
  • At least 5-years' experience in application support and business analytics Other Requirements: (e.g., certificates, license required)
  • Experience in higher education is highly desired
