Overview

Under the leadership of the Director of Infrastructure and User Services, the Senior Network Engineer provides deep subject matter expertise for network & solution design, maintenance and monitoring of secure, effective, network infrastructure for Arcadia.

Responsibilities

Essential Functions

  • Provides expertise in the selection, implementation, and management of all network and network related technologies to peers, partners and leadership.
  • Develops, build consensus for and understanding of standards, policies, documentation and controls to ensure the security, reliability, and availability of all enterprise-wide infrastructure resources.  Monitors for compliance
  • Manages contracts with quality of service and business view on SOWs, SLAs, budgets
  • Assists in the development and implementation the operational plans needed to successfully execute the IT Strategic Plan
  • Conducts capacity planning for future Arcadia growth
  • Provides/Participates in actionable assessments to ensure security
  • Provides leadership and vision in the planning and implementation of new technologies to enhance existing systems and improve end-user business processes
  • Designs, Develops, implements and communicates a system adequate to continually replace and enhance all network related technology resources and services including: access points, switches; appliances; servers; software; firewalls to ensure effective and efficient throughput on Arcadia networks, Internet and transport.
  • Schedules regular communication/coordination with members of the Arcadia Technology Community of Practice, vendors and the end-user community
  • Provides for integrated, load testing base on the voice of the customer success factors (Actor/Action/Outcome use cases)
  • Stays current with new technologies and vendor offerings
  • Provides for efficient and cost effective use of cloud-based offerings
  • Manage work and tasks using online tools for transparent project management & knowledge share

Marginal Functions

  • Provides level three support for User Support Services.
  • Assists Infrastructure group with overflow work when needed
  • Is available for evening and weekend coverage
  • Participates in on-call rotations.
  • Mentor others for shared understanding

Qualifications

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Ability to establish excellent working relationships with members of the Arcadia Technology Community of Practice, vendors and the end-user community
  • Demonstrated subject matter expertise in current network related technologies and thought-leadership
  •  Demonstrated ability to align user needs with concise profiles for throughput aligning: Network Authentication (active directory), load balancing (BGP), Network Access Control (Aruba, Clearpass) and other tools such as Blue Cat.
  •  Demonstrated experience in IT procurement, bids, budgets, contract management
  • Familiarity with cloud-based offerings, Internet 2
  • Familiarity with protected data regulations requiring segmentation
  • Demonstrate ability to collaborate effectively articulating advantages and risks of proposed solutions and options
  •  Strong root-cause analysis skills
  • Ability to function as a credible and valued member of a high performance team
  • Ability to estimate resource use in project management
  • Ability to collaborate across different organizations, locally and globally
  •  Proficient in planning and executing enterprise IT upgrades and implementations
  •  Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
  • Demonstrated ability to think strategically

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree from accredited College or University, or robust certification and/or experience
  • At least seven years' professional experience in an enterprise network environment
  • At least two years' project management, team lead or architect level experience within an IT environment.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in higher education 
  • Appropriate professional certifications 
  • Experience in working in a virtual environment that includes international teams is a plus
  • Expert working in Microsoft, Visio, Google environment
  • Experience with a wide range of IT vendors and offerings
