Overview

This entry-level position is focused on the recruitment of undergraduate students, primarily first-year students. The individual manages and implements a recruitment plan for a geographic territory. Recruitment will involve travel to high schools, two-year colleges, transfer fairs, and college fairs. Participation in all on-campus recruiting events, including weekend undergraduate open houses is expected. Attendance at on-campus graduate open houses is also required. In addition, the EM Counselor will participate in review of undergraduate admission applications. Counselors are required to be knowledgeable about all full-time and part-time undergraduate and graduate programs offered by the University. The counselor will, in general, contribute to the planning and execution of Enrollment Management recruitment and retention efforts. This individual will be knowledgeable about the financial aid process and various financing options.

Responsibilities

Essential Functions:

1. Counsel students and parents through the admission and financial aid process

2. Serve as the individual admissions counselor within an assigned territory

3. Develop and manage a territory recruitment plan including travel to high schools, community colleges and college fairs.

4. Review and recommend admission decisions and scholarship offers for assigned territory

5. Participate in on-campus recruiting events for undergraduate and graduate students including open houses, information sessions, receptions and Transfer Days

6. Prepare and execute a comprehensive communication plan, including direct mail, extensive telephone outreach, web/email campaigns, Skype/other online meeting platforms and social media to prospective students and/or parents.

7. Present group information sessions and open house presentations.

8. Manage an undergraduate, graduate or financial aid program or special population under the supervision of Assistant Vice President, Director, Associate Director or Assistant Director

 

Marginal Functions:

1. Perform other duties as assigned by the Assistant Vice President for Enrollment Management and the VP for Enrollment Management and Student Affairs

2. Review transcripts and complete preliminary credit evaluations for transfer students

Qualifications

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Strong organizational, communication, customer service, and interpersonal skills
  • Strong computer skills, including PC and MS Office products
  • Business uses of social media helpful
  • Available for regular evening and weekend programs and activities as well as overnight travel
  • Ability to lift up to 45 lbs with or without reasonable accommodation
  • Polished presentation/public speaking skills
  • Successful completion of a background check and motor vehicle record check
  • Ability to relate well within a Higher Educational Community.
  • Contributes to a positive work environment that encourages knowledge of, respect for, and development of skills to engage with those of other cultures or backgrounds.
  • Ability to learn and apply University policies and procedures to ensure operational compliance and reliable judgement.

 

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree, required;
  • 1-2 years admissions, financial aid or enrollment management experience at a postsecondary school preferred
  • Valid driver's license with a vehicle available for recruitment travel
